From houses to outbuildings, chimney fires and more, our firefighters are trained to respond quickly and effectively to protect the lives and properties of our community members.
Wildfires can be caused by various sources - including lightning, campfires, exhaust pipes, tossed cigarettes, and even sparks from passing trains. SGFR works in conjunction with BC Wildfire Services to provide quick response to any wildfire. We also provide free advice on fire-smarting your property.
Our roads see a variety of motorized vehicles, and despite everyone’s best intentions, collisions happen. We use hydraulic rescue tools such as spreaders, cutters and telescopic rams to extricate entrapped patients from vehicles that are damaged.
Contact us to learn more about creating a property pre-plan in advance of any potential emergency. It helps our team respond more efficiently and is especially helpful with those who have complex terrain or hazardous materials on their properties. It also provides valuable training for our members with different scene size up opportunities.
Calling 9-1-1 as soon as you experience any medical emergency is vital, and seconds and minutes can make a big difference in potential outcomes. With our community's distance from BC Ambulance we can experience varying wait times. Our trained members are there to help assist you with any life threatening emergency you may experience while awaiting BC Ambulance.
Whether it's rescuing you from a car accident down an embankment via rope line, or other technical rescue measures are needed, we are ready to put our training into practice and bring you to safety.
We also have a rescue stretcher and trail wheel so we can bring injured patients out from areas that cannot be accessed by vehicles, such as local trails.
When it comes to a downed power line or a motor vehicle incident, SGFR members will direct traffic around hazardous situations and protect the safety of motorists and pedestrians.
Our community's unique location in relation to various pipelines and railways, as well as the natural gas services and propane tanks within the community, present various potential hazards which our members are specifically trained on.
SGFR responds to emergencies in neighbouring communities when called upon for mutual aid. It's a reciprocal relationship that allows for local fire departments to attend large and complex situations with increased support and safety.
Help make your community a safer place to live
All SGFR members are passionate about our community. We work, live and play here, and understand how important it is to keep the residents of our area safe.
Absolutely zero experience is required to apply.
All gear, materials, and training are provided free of charge. We also offer a small hourly honorarium for attending training and callouts once you become a fully responding member.
Each member of the team brings their own unique set of skills and experiences. We have many years of dedication and service, and abide by the principle that the process of learning is never over. There is always more to learn from each other and new challenges to face as a team.
